Elmhurst Chiropractor Discusses Children Conditions

May 30th, 2012 by admin

Dr. Dana Celar of Celar Chiropractic is a Elmhurst chiropractor that has a very busy children’s practice. Pediatric musculoskeletal conditions that are frequently seen in a chiropractic setting are low back pain (LBP) andheadaches.  The incidence of low back pain in children is increasing and becoming a serious health concern inchildren and adolescents.  The estimated lifetime prevalence of LBP in children is approximately 50%, and almost 15% of children experiencing frequent or continual pain (Hayden et al, 2003).  An annual prevalence of LBP in 14 year old french schoolchildren was 82.9% with 57.7% reporting recurrent LBP and 8.9% chronic LBP (Viry et al, 1999). The main causes of LBP are mechanical in nature associated with strenuous activity or inactivity, but other risk factors are gender (more common in females), family history and spina bifida.
