Sinusitis is a condition when there is inflammation of the air cavities within the passages of the nose. It can be caused by an infection, allergies and irritation of the sinuses by harsh chemicals and pollutants. Infection occurs when bacteria, viruses and fungi grows within a sinus causing intermittent clogging of the passage. There are at least 4 types of sinusitis. One is acute sinusitis which lasts for 4 weeks. Another one is sub-acute sinusitis that lasts more than 4 weeks, with some even going up to 12 weeks. A third one is chronic sinusitis which lasts more than 12 weeks. This type can also persists for months and years. The fourth one is recurrent sinusitis typically occurring several times a year. This condition is very common, with CDCC data indicating that about 31 million adults afflicted with it in 2009.You will know if you have sinusitis if you are experiencing two or more of the following symptoms:• Blocked nasal passage• Uncontrolled nasal discharge• Congestion• Cough• Pain and pressure in the face• Loss of sense of smell• Tiredness• Bad breath or halitosis• High body temperatureMild sinusitis is usually treated using home remedies such as nasal irrigation, steam inhalation, warm compress and sleeping with the head slightly raised. To relieve headaches and pains, pain relievers are given. Decongestants sprays or tablets are also administered to induce the discharge of mucus and reduce the inflammation. But if these medications are not effective, the patient is advised to get doctor’s help. The doctor usually prescribes antibiotics, antifungal, or antiviral medications. But since the cause of sinusitis is very difficult to diagnose, these medications are not really that effective. Sinusitis can either be caused by fungi, bacteria or viruses.A wiser and more effective alternative for treating sinusitis is oregano oil. This essential oil is an all natural substance sourced from the Mediterranean wild oregano plant – a plant with a very long medicinal history for treating common sicknesses. Oregano oil is extracted from the leaves of this plant, grown, harvested and processed without using any chemicals. This essential oil packs a wallop of phytochemicals, phenols and flavonoids which function as germ killers. Carvacrol is one of these substances, and found to be very effective in controlling inflammation and relieving pain. Many scientific studies and experiments around the world have confirmed oregano oil’s ability to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. If you are suffering from sinusitis, you don’t have to concern yourself what caused it, for whatever is the reason, this powerful oil can stop it.
