Tooth decay is a process that results in cavity. It occurs when the bacteria in your mouth starts to produce acids by feeding themselves on the sugars of the food you eat. Over some period of time, these acids destroy your tooth enamel thus results to decay. You can easily prevent this by brushing and/or flossing regularly or seeing the dentist for cleaning and avoiding foods that are high in sugar. Treatment depends on how bad it is. It may be as simple as using a fluoride for a slight decay, or a tooth filling for a mild one, a crown or root canal for severe cases to tooth extraction for extremely severe cases.
